Which one do you do?

I do too much dreaming! I love to look at success stories on line. I need to DO more.

Reasons I Am Committed to Losing 7 Pounds
Reminders to Myself

I owe this to myself. I want to see it happen. I am 44. It needs to happen soon! Why wait?

Medium Sized vs. Tiny
I want to experience the difference of being positively tiny, rather than just medium sized. I want to go all the way and see what it is like.

Eating junk isn't sustaining.
It really doesn't feel good to me anymore. I honestly feel better when I eat fresh, clean food.

Dessert is a different story.
I am not going to ever give up eating dessert. I am going to count my dessert consistently.  One cup of ice cream = 10 points. One cup honestly tastes better than two. After the first cup, it isn't about the taste anymore...

Clothing
I want to be able to wear anything I like and feel good in it. I don't want to have to censor my outfits based on the size of my derriere.  I want to be able to put on an outfit and feel fabulous, not "decent". A good example is the new sweater dress I purchased and haven't worn.

Consistency is the name of the game for me. I already do the right thing much of the time. I just need to become more consistent. My life is over the top busy right now. So sometimes fitting in things like another run to the store for fresh fruit and veggies that help me stay the course, can be truly difficult to fit in. However, as of today I am readopting my "No Excuses" Mindset.

I have decided to count points until I drop 7 pounds. I have been at  this weight for about a year and I am pretty content. However, it is a happy and content weight, not an "I feel skinny" weight.  I have decided to lose 7 pounds and then see how that makes me feel. I have had a few problems with this in the past:

  • Since I don't have that much to lose, it is hard to keep my motivation and determination up.
  • Part of me thinks that no matter how much weight I lose, I won't look the way I want to. I feel like genetics plays a role. But then I look at how some other on line folks have transformed their bodies and I think, "Wow. You really can go from overweight all the way to tiny."
  • My life is on complete overload already.
  • I definitely don't want it to be so hard to maintain my weight that I can't ever relax around food.
However, I have decided to GO FOR IT!

I am not going to do anything over the top in terms of exercise. I am just going to try to continue my consistency.

Last year was my year to become a consistent exerciser and this is going to be my year to become a consistent eater!

Consistent Exercise - 1 Year

I have been exercising consistently for over a year now!

Last November, I began exercising three days a week or more. I stuck with Slim Katie's advice - to not do anything to lose weight, that I wasn't willing to live with forever. In January, I set a goal to keep going and make my exercise consistent and moderate for an entire year, and I have done it!!

In the past, I have had a few months of exercising regularly, but then I would make my expectations too high and then stop. So this time I just kept my expectations moderate. It has definitely made a difference in maintaining my weight loss and it has made my small weight loss (7 or 8 lbs) appear larger than it was.

The last few months have been the hardest time to keep exercising. My life has gone from regularly busy to over the top busy, as I have begun teaching (future teachers) one night a week at the local community college. I love it, but it requires an enormous amount of prep work. This new teaching opportunity came at the same exact time I began working on my administrative internship, which requires that I log many hours each week working with my administrators. On top of that, my boss asked me to switch positions this year, from teaching fifth grade, to teaching reading. Of course, this is all on top of my "normal busyness" as a full time working mom of two children, one with special needs. Thank goodness I have a supportive husband!

The internship means more evening commitments and I have often been stressed and physically tired. So honestly, I have gone from enthusiastic workouts to slogging through the minimum, hanging on by a thread. But that is okay, because I....have.....not.....stopped.

My eating is not consistent however, and that still needs work. I have maintained my loss, but it isn't because I eat consistently. To a large degree, I have mostly stuck with eating what I love, in moderation. However, this fall the moderation has been stretched a bit and I am starting to slip with my ice cream consumption. I am still nowhere near being what I consider a "consistent eater". I still have have roller coaster eating, just to a lesser degree.

This may sound strange, and I have never had an eating disorder, but I consider myself a "disordered eater". Disordered as in I am not a "normal" eater. I would like to change that over the long term, but this is not the time really. Just maintaining what I am doing is taking everything I have, and I can't up the ante right now.

I need to stop focusing on what I haven't done and take a moment to appreciate that I have stuck with my exercising through an extraordinarily busy time in my life.  :)

Insert moment of appreciation here................................................................................................

Having said all that, my goal between now and Christmas is to keep on exercising and to reign in my ice cream eating.

Not an Outside Runner....Yet!

I have been running 3 miles regularly on the treadmill. I thought I might like to try running outside this spring, and I knew it would be a rocky transition for me. But our winter has been so mild (read barely any snow) that yesterday I got the urge to take a run outside (crazy, right?). I was able to run for only about 4 minutes. UGH. Plus, I had the embarrassment of "running into" my superintendent, who is quite an athlete and a "real runner". Double UGH.

There are definitely some big obstacles to running outside, for me. For one thing, I have no way to sense if my pace is my usual one or even if it is steady. The other obstacle is the cold air. It makes it MUCH harder. The last obstacle is I feel like an IDIOT. I just cheerfully ignored that feeling, however.

The fresh air and sunshine calls to me, so I am going to try and work through the obstacles. I think I would really like outside running, if I can get used to it.

I am assuming the cold air thing will get better with time and practice. Ditto for feeling like an idiot. As for pace, I used that as an excuse to order a Garmin 210 on Amazon. I should have it within 2 days. I can't wait to get it. This was probably pretty frivolous since I don't even know for sure if I will become an "outdoor runner". Maybe I can blame this purchase on Katie??  ;)

For now, if it stays reasonably warm, I am going to do my "real running" 3x a week on the treadmill and work on my "outside running" on the other days - trying to build up over time.

When I was forced to run in high school, cross country was always difficult for me. The cold air bothered me and the dr. said I had exercise induced asthma. I don't really buy into that though.

Happy Weight

I can't believe how long it has been since I have posted. Life has been busy and I have been spending less time on line overall. The good news is I am still doing well with my weight and even more importantly, my exercise!!

I am at a "happy weight", so I am not dieting - just watching portions. Would I like to lose more? Sure! But on the other hand, I am ok staying here if I don't. I am eating what I like and having a little dessert each day. Life is good.  :)

People are noticing the weight loss all of a sudden, even though I have only lost probably 8 pounds altogether. I am running 3 miles, 3x a week. That may be why I look thinner to people. I think the running is changing my shape.

I have done surprisingly well with the exercise commitment. I just program my mind on the days I need to run, and don't even consider not running. I try to run as soon as I get home from work, whenever possible. I try to put the running first and above everything else that needs to get done - dinner, homework, etc.

Stressed

I haven't posted in a while but wanted to let everyone know it is not because I have fallen off the wagon.  :) I am incredibly stressed right now, so I am just focusing on maintaining my weight loss at 6 pounds and my exercise at 3 days a week, without trying to lose weight. I have been maintaining in both areas since Jan 1st.

In fact, I have consistently exercised for 3 days a week for 9 weeks now. This week I ran 3 miles without stopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
